The Improbable Adventures of Sherlock Holmes

I’m editing a new reprint anthology of Sherlock Holmes fiction for Night Shade Books, which is scheduled for publication this fall. The working title is The Improbable Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, and it will contain tales of both mystery and the fantastic.

As with my past reprint projects, I’ve setup a database to solicit recommendations of Sherlock Holmes fiction. Since the book will include tales of multiple genres, pretty much any story featuring Sherlock Holmes is eligible for consideration.

ETA: The book is done, so recommendations are now closed. Thanks!

This is a great idea. Both the anthology and the database. I’ll see if I can think of anything.

Very cool… why did you decide to do a Sherlock Holmes Anthology?

Check out the anthology ‘Gaslight Grimoire’. There’s one story that is Moriarty story…name escapes me at the nanosecond.

Red Planet League By Kim Newman (This is the Moriarty story). There four other very good stories that weren’t Gaslight extreme. Read and decide for yourself.

I’m glad to see this in the works. I have a growing collection of Sherlock Holmes stories and am looking forward to adding your anthology to my mini-S.H. library.

A reprint anthology, eh? I suspect you’ve a pile of reading in front of you but what else is new? The Stephen King ‘The Doctor’s Case’ from Nightmares and Dreamscapes is an excellent story, I was pleasantly surprised by how straight a pastiche it was. Other authors who’ve dabbled with Holmes include the recently departed Phillip Jose Farmer, Fred Saberhagan and Edward D. Hoch. August Derleth, Loren D. Estleman, David Stuart Davies, Kim Newman and Barbara Hambly all come to mind as well.
    Best of Luck!

“I know, my dear Watson, that you share my love of all that is bizarre and outside the conventions and humdrum routine of everyday life. You have shown your relish for it by the enthusiasm which has prompted you to chronicle, and, if you will excuse my saying so, somewhat to embellish so many of my own little adventures.”- Sherlock Homes The Red Headed League.
