If you’re an Amazon Prime member, good news: You can borrow THE END IS NIGH for free from the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library.

If you’re not familiar with that feature, here’s a bit about it from Amazon:

The Kindle Owners’ Lending Library gives you access to thousands of books, including New York Times bestsellers, to borrow and read for free.

  • Borrow a book as frequently as once per month
  • No due dates — keep books as long as you like and return them when it’s time for something new
  • Read on any Amazon Kindle device

And the good news for authors (and in this case, editors) is: We still get paid! Amazon pays the author per borrow. It’s not as much as you’re going to earn on regular sale royalties most of the time, but it’s a not insignificant sum.

REVIEW: Locus, the trade journal of science fiction and fantasy, names two THE END IS NIGH stories to the recommended reading list!

Locus, the trade journal of the science fiction/fantasy field, reviews THE END IS NIGH in its April 2014 issue.

The review (which is not online), singles out Charlie Jane Anders’s story, “Break! Break! Break!” (which you can read online), saying it “may well be the best story in the book.” The reviewer, Rich Horton, adds: “the overall tone [is] comic [but] the underlying feeling is much darker – to excellent effect.”

The review also singles out several other “strong stories” in the book, including: Paolo Bacigalupi’s ‘‘Shooting the Apocalypse’’,  Tobias S. Buckell’s ‘‘System Reset’’, and Will McIntosh’s ‘‘Dancing with Death in the Land of Nod’’.

Of the stories mentioned in the review, ‘‘Break! Break! Break!’’ by Charlie Jane Anders and ‘‘Shooting the Apocalypse’’ by Paolo Bacigalupi made the recommended reading list.
