NEWS: THE END IS NIGH Expanded Distro for Ebook Edition Delayed to July 1

We originally planned to have THE END IS NIGH exclusive on Kindle for 90 days so we could take advantage of the Kindle Select program, and then release the issue in other ebookstores on June 1. And we still will release the ebook edition in those other stories, but we’re going to have to delay that a month, to July 1. Sorry for the inconvenience!

NEWS: Amazon Prime Members Can Borrow THE END IS NIGH for Free from the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library

If you’re an Amazon Prime member, good news: You can borrow THE END IS NIGH for free from the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library.

If you’re not familiar with that feature, here’s a bit about it from Amazon:

The Kindle Owners’ Lending Library gives you access to thousands of books, including New York Times bestsellers, to borrow and read for free.

  • Borrow a book as frequently as once per month
  • No due dates — keep books as long as you like and return them when it’s time for something new
  • Read on any Amazon Kindle device

For more information about the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library visit our help page.

And the good news for authors (and in this case, editors) is: We still get paid! Amazon pays the author per borrow. It’s not as much as you’re going to earn on regular sale royalties most of the time, but it’s a not insignificant sum.

On related note, THE END IS NIGH is also part of Amazon’s Matchbook program, which means if you bought the trade paperback edition, if you want to also own the Kindle edition, you can get it at a discounted price. (In this case, 99 cents!):

For thousands of qualifying books, your past, present, and future print-edition purchases now lets you buy the Kindle edition for $2.99 or less. (Textbooks available for $9.99 or less.)

  • Thousands of books are eligible, including current and former best sellers.
  • Look for the Kindle MatchBook icon on print and Kindle book detail pages of qualifying books. You can also see more Kindle MatchBook titles here or look up all of your Kindle MatchBook titles here.

REVIEW: Locus, the trade journal of science fiction and fantasy, names two THE END IS NIGH stories to the recommended reading list!

Locus, the trade journal of the science fiction/fantasy field, reviews THE END IS NIGH in its April 2014 issue.

The review (which is not online), singles out Charlie Jane Anders’s story, “Break! Break! Break!” (which you can read online), saying it “may well be the best story in the book.” The reviewer, Rich Horton, adds: “the overall tone [is] comic [but] the underlying feeling is much darker – to excellent effect.”

The review also singles out several other “strong stories” in the book, including: Paolo Bacigalupi’s ‘‘Shooting the Apocalypse’’,  Tobias S. Buckell’s ‘‘System Reset’’, and Will McIntosh’s ‘‘Dancing with Death in the Land of Nod’’.

Of the stories mentioned in the review, ‘‘Break! Break! Break!’’ by Charlie Jane Anders and ‘‘Shooting the Apocalypse’’ by Paolo Bacigalupi made the recommended reading list.
